An autumn tale

The wind howled in the trees,
leaves skittering down from the bending branches.
Leaves billowing up from the woodland floor
Colour drained from the day,
the temperature falling
Night seemed to come fast, with no light to guide
What was that over there?
her mind started to play tricks.
She knew this way, she'd been before
The owl called from up above
The fox barked on the hillside
Her senses on high alert, trying not to scare
To keep her pace and not to panic
Oh God there it was again, she was sure.
Oh let her get home to her front door.
The rustling of creatures was what she told herself
Not to be stupid no mad axeman hereabouts.
It came quickly the stab to her heart
And with her last breath she knew it was broken
Her lover had left her and she'd have to survive
Alone in the woods, as the moon arose

Wonderful closing words to the suspense.

That would be one of my nightmares - alone in the woods at night. All the senses were touched with this one, Mandy. I want to go and rescue her!

What a survival story...
A scaring tale, but she gets to survive doesn't she? Alone in the woods, at least for a while, but alive. Because she has to, and she also wants to, am I right? ;)
