Autumnal end

The water tumbled and rushed over rocks with not a moment to lose
The leaves fell like orange and yellow snow from the trees
The birds flew hither and thither scouting out their food
The dogs rustled in the undergrowth, whilst the squirrels laughed up above.
The children jumped in puddles despite their mums pleas
The sun shone, the sky almost painful blue.
The couple walked side by side looking happy to others
They'd learnt to do this to keep the world away
They walked to the spot where their child had drowned
And sitting down beside the river they swallowed the tablets and lie down to die.
The heron watched from the other bank and flew over when the time was right to help their souls on the way
The birds silent for a moment as if in prayer, the wind gusted and the leaves drifted down and covered them lying there to keep them safe perhaps for a while
Till they succeeded in their desire

Beautiful, Mandy. I felt like I was right there in the woods, watching it all unfold. A feast for all the senses.
