i sit beneath the canopy of green
the bird song sweet amongst the leaves
the sun lighting up the earth
the sounds of life go bustling by
but i sit quiet and contemplate.
it's nearly time for me to go
to leave this place
i will return, of that i'm certain
but not until another year or so, can i sit here
this sanctuary for my soul
it will though stay in my mind, as it has done for years
and in the darkness of the night
when dreams are needed
i will travel to it, to the light
the place of love and care
where with my friends i do share
the joy and sadness that make our lives

I'm sure a lot of folks look at your blog in the same way...that porch they come to sit on when they want the company of an open, empathetic soul.
And next time, I'll buy the drinks...:)
That porch is making a poet out of you! And I can so understand you`ll miss it. But I`m sure the porch and your friends will also miss you!
Mandy, big hug, I agree with Angela an with Ronjazz, very often your blog is my porch. We are the odds one arent we! Tons of hugs
Lovely.Just Lovely.
Fine words, and I agree with what's said above.
Safe journey home, and yes of course you'll return to that porch.

Your porch, Sorrow's labrynth, Terri's walks - my blogging friends have found places of refuge for their souls and are generous to share with others. It sets me to thinking. Where is my refuge? Where can I go in the dark of night when the shadows threaten and the noises of the day become silent save for my own thoughts?
On this I must ponder.
"this sanctuary for my soul" - simply beautiful!
It's something we all need, and there is nothing like a good porch to sit on with a good friend by your side.
I wish you a safe journey home, and a heart full of warm memories to keep you until you return to that porch once again.

I'd hate to part with the company and the porch.
Safe journey.

What a beautiful piece. I love the words you had used in the expressions for the emotions.

Byrd you would be such great porch company! The conversation would flow I am sure, or your presence would be calm and contemplative as needs be. Thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog - big hug to you, and safe travels home dear Brydie.xx
just delightful! xo
I was on the porch with you..
I tried to leave a comment last night but Blogger was going haywire. Anyway, it's so nice to read that you had a good time with your friends. And I love your poem.
Sometimes it's like just before you wake up from a dream but his one you get to revisit if you choose
